Billed as 'the only Traditional Thai Spa experience in the UK', Thai Square Spa has a lot to live up to. I was welcomed into the airy well lit reception decorated in the expected elephant/Asian motifs with a lovely scent of bamboo shoots and green sauce tickling my nostrils (they have a restaurant upstairs). I was led down the stairs by a lovely therapist, and after the traditional 'Sawasdee Ka' greeting removed my shoes and padded around in slippers( A Thai tradition is that you only wear slippers or go barefoot indoors). I changed into a comfy robe and made my way to the treatment room to undergo the Radiant Sole Therapy. I've always been a little embarrassed of my feet- and uber ticklish, so I was worried that it might be difficult, but I was instantly put at ease with a mug of hot sweet tea and a friendly word.
To start with I placed my feet in a bowl of hot water with herbs and flowers scattered in it. The petals floated on top- very picturesque. Each food was scrubbed and dried as an assortment of herbs and lotions were added to the mixture and then I made my way over to the bed.
I lay down on the soft towels and each of my feet was taken in turn and delicately kneaded by the therapist. She worked her way from calf to toes, her firm gentle fingers destressing the tension and smoothing the skin. The feet were then covered in a special body mask that contains honey, lemongrass and vitamin C and placed in a cotton bag to let the treatment sink in.
The lady then moved onto my arms, from shoulder to wrist covering them in scented oil and firmly pressing down on pressure points. One final massage of the legs and I was finished, slightly lightheaded from being supine and giddy with relaxation. Once I'd changed back I made my way to the relaxation room to acclimatize back to reality with more sweet tea and a magazine.
My legs and feet feel amazing, and are now primed for flip flop season.
There are seven treatment rooms on offer and they also do special couple treatment's where they turn two rooms into one!
I tried out the Radiant Foot Therapy, which took 1 hour 15minutes and cost £55.
You can find the spa at 25 Shelton Street , Covent Garden, London WC2H 9HW and call them on 020 7240 6090 or check them out online here.
