yves_saint_laurent_beauty.jpgMost of the major fashion labels have a beauty line nowadays, but none of them have had the monumental success of having one of their products attain cult status like Yves Saint Laurent has.

The makeup line has been active since 1978, when Saint Laurent decided he wanted to help create a "face" for the woman he dressed. The result was a range of products combining innovative design and bold, vibrant colours, all in that beautiful and distinctive gold packaging (the products are actually designed to look like pieces of jewellery).

To show that the brand isn't just piggybacking off the success of its fashion label, YSL's beauty brand has become respected aside from that - as we mentioned already its Touche Éclat highlighting pen (£24.50) has taken it's place next to Chanel No5 and Elizabeth Arden's 8 hour cream as a total cult product. Just to show they don't rest on their laurels, they've added six more shades to the range - making seven in total - which launch tomorrow in Selfridges.

New products include Teint Radiance foundation (£29.50) which has a brush application system, and their Pure Cromatics Wet and Dry Eyeshadow palettes (£37), which change in intensity and impact when applied with water. But what we really love about Yves Saint Laurent is that their exciting and imaginative products like these are built on amazing quality - I can't live without their Rouge Pur Lipstick (and neither can Victoria Beckham apparently!). With all this, it's clear to see why YSL are one of the most respected designer beauty brands, and why they're our brand of the week!
