Hair removal really sucks. The chore of daily getting out that razor/Veet is something nobody enjoys, so we search for new cool ways to get rid of our unwanted hair. Boots have just launched the iPulse Smooth Skin Plus IPL hair removal machine, which is a step up from their original Smooth Skin (minus the plus). It promises quicker hair removal, less pain and eventually (fingers crossed) permanent hair reduction.
IPL works by sending a burst of light into the skin which then turns into heat and disables the hair follicle. The procedure needs to be repeated multiple times to catch hair in all the different stages of growth.
The kit comes with a Electronic Skin Tone Sensor which lets you work out what setting to place the machine one, in order to have the most effect. To start using the machine, you fisrt need to refrigerate the Boots Activator Gel (included) and apply a thick layer. It's quite gloopy so be prepared for mess and have a towel close by. Next you place the machine head on the skin and press the button to emit the light. The flash is very bright- sunglasses may be a good idea.
I have been advised that 6-12 session are needed to see the best effect and should be spread out at least a week or two apart. It is time consuming- a leg took around thirty minutes, and messy as well.
It's not suitable for everyone, so read the manual carefully and consult a salesperson before purchase. You will need to buy more Activator gel as it does run out quite quickly- but the big question is if it works?
In this video I show you how to use it and how it looks in person (I've been advised to use more gel for less pain) and in future I'll be giving you the lowdown on the longterm effects.
Here's to a hair free summer!
