Talk to me about "molten metallic eyes" and I'm sold! First debuted on the Derek Lam Fall 2011 runway, the collection is designed to evoke a "rogue femininity combined with modern minimalism."
"I was inspired by modern architecture, modern buildings and all the phenomenal reflections you see on glass buildings that show the skyline," said Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux. "Whether it's a blue sky, a snowstorm or a beautiful sunrise or sunset, it's never the same skyline colors you normally see because of the unique way the light is reflected off the glass. With Modern Mercury, you can be wearing the same colors, but you will never end up with the exact same look."
The standout of the collection for me is the Liquid Eyeliner in three highly-pearlized shades, Graphite, Black Quartz and Silver Zinc. I tried Graphite and the felt-tip applicator brush was easier to use than traditional liquid liner brushes, but not as steady as a pen. But the color and effect is worth it. It's a saturating, pearly, sparkly yet dark gray. This is the product that most evokes the "mercury" monicker.
I also enjoy the eye palettes, Platinum and Modern Mercury, and the matte lipsticks - one in a very wearable Nude Velvet and the other a shocking pink Fuchsia Velvet. Seen above with the latter is the Illuminating Powder Gelee. This is definitely a collection you can find some favorites in, but be careful they're limited edition!
