I was banking on August being the month where we finally got summer, but so far it's not turning out like I'd hoped. Still, we all know by now that just because you can't see the sun, doesn't mean it's not there, and even though we aren't getting the nice benefits of it (sunshine, heat, happiness, etc) we're still getting the bad (skin-ageing UVA rays and cancer-causing UVB rays - go here for more on understanding how it works). Which is why it's important to always wear at least a low-level sunscreen, and especially on your face - nobody wants to help the ageing process along, or, well, get cancer.

Finding a nice facial sunscreen can be tricky since you usually want to wear makeup over the top (well I do), which means you need something that does the job, as well as sinking in fast and giving you a nice matte base (especially if you use a mineral foundation like I do; waiting for suncream or primer to dry is a massive pain). So we've trawled through them to find the best. I'd recommend using the higher protection ones in the summer, and the lower ones in the winter, when UVA and UVB rays are still present. Sunscreen should also be applied if you've been using any products that leave your skin vulnerable, like exfoliaters or acne or anti-ageing products, or if you've been taking antibiotics.
