New York Fashion Week is underway, and there's no better time than to get the lowdown on the latest beauty trends from insider experts. The Metier de Beaute team are working the shows and I managed to sit down with them to catch up on their seasonal beauty predictions. It's exciting stuff- forget about the summer full of barely there taupe and naughty nude, this Autumn we're going full on bold and intense, with a dark eye AND lip- an unusual combination. Colour Director Mikey Castillo enthusiastically shares how this works together.

'It's something we haven't seen since the 1980s', he beams. 'Now it's more modern and works really well.' The smoky eyes of the season is one that has 'no lines of demarcation' so it can be worn at night and during the day, The key is to layer the colours of the eye- contrasting shades build and remove and harsh edges and lines. Find out how to do this and more after the jump.

'Glitter is tacky', Castillo declares' but satiny sheen is fine'. The perfect technique is called 'Couche de Coleur' which translates as layering of colour and the brands adorable compacts add to this idea as you can literally work your way down the different shades adding and emboldening your style. Think versatile and multi tonal- flat is one shade and drab, whilst a few key colours together- dusky rose, shimmering gold, pale lilac and enhance e the eyes.

You want to know all about the products though and they're a treat for the eyes. The Metier de Beaute Silk Road Collection comprises of a Silk Road kaleidoscope eye kit which mixes opulent hues of plum and copper for lightly pigmented shades which you can build up with brushes.

They also have a matching lip kaleidoscope kit called Empress which involves a delicate nude base and a creamy mauve for added va va voom. Lipstick layering is still an area many women forget about, but why should the eyes have all the fun? Add depth and excitement to the lips, and you can use a finger or a lip brush- though lip brushes are advised for a better 'wash' and they'll even out any lines.

Finally there's a stunning four piece nail set called 'East Meets West' and I love the look of these shades, they're like chocolate took a ride to Egypt and covered itself in spices. There's Dynasty- a fuchsia, Anatolia a rich looking plum Silk Road (my favourite) a copper and Urban Dweller- a golden plum tone.
