foster_london_review_dipdye.jpgA few weeks ago we sent our Editorial Director Jess Markwood off to try out trendy east London hairsalon Foster London, where she arrived with the intention of leaving looking like Sophia Bush.

While that didn't exactly happen, Jess did leave with a beautiful subtle spin on the dip-dye trend, taking the dramatic summer craze to a more natural place (which we feel would work great for winter - the time for electric blue hair has passed I feel). Check out her review of the salon after the cut!

Jess Markwood writes...

The team at Foster London were friendly and welcoming when I arrived at the salon clutching a picture of Sophia Bush. As I waited for my tea and a mini cheesecake, my stylist Nadia and I discussed what I wanted (ideally to be transformed into Sophia using just a pair of scissors and some hair dye) and what she thought was best for my hair. I have very fine hair so need to be careful with how much I mess with it, as it gets dry and brittle easily - I appreciated Nadia's honesty during the consultation (it in fact would take a whole load of surgery to make me look like Sophia Bush) and by the end felt comfortable that she'd create a look that was in tune with what I'd indicated I wanted and what would work best for my hair.

Decor was granny chic and very east London in style with fun cat ornaments everywhere you looked. I loved the attention to detail downstairs at the sinks where, in the knowledge that customers would be spending the next ten minutes facing the ceiling they had taken the time to make it interesting for them by adding a beautiful printed wallpaper. At this point I must also mention I had the best head massage ever - my favourite part of visiting the hairdressers, other than the big reveal, but certainly one of the overriding factors for me.

My hair when I arrived was a light, gingery brown, and I wanted to go a darker colour that faded to a light brown at the tips - the new season's dip dye. So as not to damage my hair, Nadia recommended that I keep my original colour at the tips and we just dye the top a darker chocolate brown. To keep the look edgy and maintain the length, she gave me a blunt cut at the back that graduated to a longer length at the front.

Since I was off to celebrate my birthday that evening, the team made sure I left looking glam - as you can gather from the big grin I was pretty chuffed with it. I've included a picture of myself how I look a few weeks afterwards, so you can see how it looks self styled. Still happy!
