Frankincense.jpgA sad but fitting story on Christmas Eve Eve - Frankincense may soon be a thing of the past!

The resin - which of course was one of the three gifts that were bestowed on baby Jesus by the three wise men - used in many fragrances comes from the Boswellia papyrifera tree, grown in Ethiopia, and it's been discovered that 7 per cent of them are dying each year, and not producing more saplings.

Apparently they're declining at such a rate that "production could be halved over the next 15 years and the trees could decline by 90 per cent in the next 50 years."

Obviously this is bad news for the perfume industry: frankincense is used in loads of products, from Illamasqua's Freak, to Jo Malone and even in skincare like Neal's Yard's Frankincese line.
