Louis Vuitton has confirmed rumors that they will be releasing their first fragrance, though they haven't given many details other than the famed "nose" behind the project: Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud.

It was reported in October that Cavallier-Belletrud had been hired by LVMH to helm a perfume project, and he began his new position on Tuesday. As he is expected to begin travelling to source notes for the scent, it's still in the beginning stages and no release date is hinted at, not even if it will be in 2012, though that seems unlikely.

"Making perfume is a magnificent journey, which starts with the quality of the base ingredients," Cavallier-Belletrud told WWD.

Apparently this isn't really LV's first perfume, they had a few scents in the '20s and '30s that were discontinued.

The perfume will be sold exclusively in Louis Vuitton stores, as we know the brand doesn't do licensing or (ew) wholesale.
