The Academy Awards are honoring three films in the category of best makeup this year: Albert Nobbs, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Iron Lady.
There's no denying that a major transformation was performed upon Meryl Streep for her portral of Margaret Thatcher. This is an especially impressive feat when the actress and the character are both so iconic, and the character is biographical.
It's disappointing to see the Harry Potter franchise relegated to these minor awards yet again, in its final award-show run, but I suppose fans will take what they can get.
And finally Albert Nobbs makeup artists had the task of making Glenn Close look like a woman posing as a man in 19th Century Ireland. I suppose this involved making it look like she wasn't wearing any makeup, which is always a more difficult task than imagined.
