Firstly, the hair - created by ghd's Creative Directer Kenna. It was half inspired by the style of Russian peasants dressed up as royals and half by armoured insects. The result was a sleek updo; beautiful, elegant and sophisticated from the front, and at the back "kind of weird" (Kenna's words, not mine).

First, hair was prepped with ghd Root Lift Spray to give body and texture, and smoothed then down with the ghd air. Then it was braided into baggy, elevated french plaits down either side, representing the spine of the insect, surrounding a smooth, slightly raised oval in the middle to represent the curved, hard back of a beetle. The plaits ran down the length of the hair, with more emerging from the smooth middle section, which were then intertwined together into a twist at the nape of the neck.

The make up was equally striking and the bug influence obvious - while skin was Elizabethan style-pale, colour leapt out from the eyes, disconnectedly painted with acid, emerald and forest greens over and below the eyebrows. Black eyeliner was swept into the crease of the eye in a curved motion that extended out to the outer corner of the eyebrow, and a pale sage green was painted underneath the eyes and in the centre of the eyelid. Lips were perfectly sculpted with a glossy deep purple colour.

But the piece de resistance of Fyodor Golan was the model who emerged at the end, painted emerald green and covered in glitter (we really felt for the stylists at her next show).
