Though we're only 5 months in to the year, we've scoured the key shows, streets and scenes of 2012 and successfully managed to pick out some of this year's key trends. The overwhelming theme so far has been revival; granted, though there is a unique undertone of a modernist style appearing, much of the year so far has been dominated by re-worked 20th century iconic styles, injected with a little more quality (think of all the hair products and accessories we are blessed with today!) than their predecessors.

So, let's get going and take a look at some of the stars so far of hairstyles 2012! Always ones to work our way up, we'll kick off with Hairstyles 2012 long hair: homemade curls appear to be a huge hit this year with those boasting Bible-length locks! With a parting and obvious product definition, this style is simultaneously soft and eye-catching. Another fave appears to be the 'tumbled tail;' a slightly-tricky-to-create fabulous style which cleverly gives off the illusion of being a fish plait when in fact there is no braiding involved.

Let us now turn to Hairstyles 2012 medium hair (also applicable here are Hairstyles 2012 for round faces): the double french twist, born in the 1960s, has made a welcome come-back! This fabulously elegant back-combed crown that swirls back into two mirrored French twists and magically creates a vintage bouffant hairstyle is definitely one to try out yourselves this year! Another top-dog for the medium-lengthers has been the wet-look chignon, used massively throughout this year's Fashion Weeks. This look somehow combines an element of rigid construction (we're talking gel overload here) with that fresh-out-the-pool look.

Last but not least, ladies, enter Hairstyles 2012 short hair. 2nd prize for this category has to go to the Mod bob; a short, messy, voluminous style perfect for bob hairstyles 2012 which has undoubtedly taken its inspiration from the likes of Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy. Diverting massively away from the elegance of the silver medallist but neverthless equally brilliant, and proud owner of the gold medal, is the afro haircut! With the return of all things 70's this year, it should come as little surprise that the afro has made a definite comeback!
