I told you last week how obsessed with Lana Del Rey's hair I have become - and just in time too, with all the retro styles coming out on the red carpet (on Fearne Cotton, Melissa George and Emilia Fox at the BAFTAs) and on the catwalks at New York Fashion Week (only last night we saw it at Jenny Packham) - I'm getting in on an encroaching trend. Vogue have helped me come one step closer to having the singer's beautiful 1950s waves myself, by explaining how the hairstyle the star sported on their cover was done!
(If you're not convinced by this picture, just watch the behind-the-scenes video here to fall in love with it)
Lana's actual cover hair was created by celebrity stylist Christiaan, but Luke Hersheson advivised the magazine on how we could replicate the style, describing it as "old Fifties set, but made modern". Here's how you do it - it's surprisingly easy:
1. Separate your hair into even sections about an inch wide by an inch deep.
2. Twist and wrap each section of hair around a hair tongs, right to the tips (using the curling iron on top of the hair rather than under it to make sure the wave is prominent) and hold it there "until it 'cooks'" before releasing and letting it hair set).
3. Use a vent brush to brush it through. According to Luke you have to use a vent brush when brushing out a tonged curl as the holes mean it won't make the style drop like a bristle brush would. Add some serum and hairspray and voilà!
