Milan Fashion Week beauty: Gothic Romanticism at Gucci AW12
And as one fashion week ends another begins! Just as we're starting to get over London, Milan Fashion Week is upon us, kicking off with Gucci, who we always expect something dramatic from, and they never disappoint.
For their A/W12 show, Pat McGrath headed up the CoverGirl make up team and Luigi Murenu was on the hair for John Frieda, to create a look inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti - this meant pale skin, loose hair and dark lips - all very romantic, but with an eerie, medieval spin.
To achieve the dark, glossy berry-red stain, McGrath used CoverGirl Queen Collection Lipcolor in Fine Wine all over the lip, with a dab of Queen Collection Hot Lipcolor in the centre, which gave it a really three dimensional look. Everything else - skin, eyes - were kept as minimal as possible, with a sweep of mascara on the upper lashes, and some white eyeliner on the waterline to open up the eyes. The eyebrows were deliberately blocked out to keep the look from being too "period".
For the hair, Murenu prepped it with John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Mousse, before making a rough centre parting and adding extensions to get a luxurious cascade of flowing waves. The two front sections were then gathered, twisted loosely around the back of the head, and clipped together with a jewelled, bow-shaped clasp.
