One of our highlights from yesterday at London Fashion Week was hanging out backstage with the lovely team from Toni & Guy at the Todd Lynn AW12 show to check out what was going on with the hair before the models hit the catwalk.
We chatted to Toni & Guy head stylist Cos Sakkas who created the look for this season - a really low ponytail, very close to the head to make it look as small as possible. "The collection is really tailored, that's why we wanted to create a really small head," Sakkas explained to us. "The designers wanted to focus on the silhouette of the clothes rather than have something too big and distracting."

To achieve this, models were given a strong centre parting, before having their hair coated with shine spray to give it a wet look, and then gel worked into it with a brush to get it really flat. A lot of gel.

See.
The hair was then pulled into a ponytail, and the perimeters were pulled out and stuck over the face and ears in a "web-like" m\nner.
Just before the models were sent out, the Toni & Guy team raked their fingers through the front ("so you can almost see the scalp underneath, like the hair has been shaved away," said Sakkas) to create more of the web effect, which also features on some of the clothes.
A really striking style on the catwalk, and totally in tune with Todd Lynn's collection (see it here on Catwalk Queen) but how can you make it wearable for everyday? "Keep the strong centre parting, get rid of the webbed front, apply some spray shine and then work it into a low ponytail so it still stays tailored and elegant," he said. "If you wear it with something thats quite elegant it'll look quite cool." Agreed!
