miranda_kerr_chanel_aw12_gem_eyebrows.jpgOne of my Fashion Month highlights is always the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week - Creative Directer Peter Philips never fails to deliver a look that is dramatic, inspiring and features some exciting new product that I instantly fall in love with (Chanel Jade from 2009, Chanel Perfection Lumiere last year, Chanel Skyline from Haute Couture '12, etc). This season he's kept up to my expectations with the return of 3D makeup, sending models (such as Miranda Kerr, above) down the catwalk of their AW12 show with gem-studded eyebrows.

As always, the inspiration behind the idea was the theme of the show - easily guessed from the huge crystals protruding from the catwalk: "The theme [of the show] is minerals," Peter told Style.com. "There are minerals coming out of the set! So Karl made a sketch and he wanted minerals on the eye." The stone-encrusted strip brows were created with the help of Paris embroidery experts Lesage , with gems in shades of gray, green, pink, and purple stuck to mesh panels that were glued on with a prosthetic adhesive.


Aside from the brows, the rest of the makeup was very understated, to balance it all out: Chanel Mat Lumière Fluid Foundation was used to create the beautiful skin that Chanel models always sport, and lids and cheekbones were tinted with a new eye shadow-blush hybrid, Notorious.


Hair was a lot more refined than we saw at their Haute Couture show, in sleek, wet-look ponytails created by Sam McKnight to keep hair out of the way of the collared clothes. Nails were painted with a new shade for Autumn called Frenzy, a griege, which sadly is not that exciting. But maybe they'll produce a limited edition line of the eyebrows? Fingers crossed.
