Lancome Hypnose-Star Open.jpgI don't think I need to tell you how much I love Lancôme Hypnôse mascara - I mention at every possible opportunity that the entire Hypnôse line is amazing, with my specific favourite being Hypnôse Doll Eyes - well, until I tried the newest launch, Star (although to be fair I'd made up my mind before I'd even applied it because of the glitter(!) on the tube).

Lancôme Hypnôse Star mascara is the follow up to Doll Eyes, and plays up to the massive 30s trend we'll be seeing this autumn, inspired by the eye make up of 1930s movies. They tout it as their first ever mascara to offer curve and volume, thanks to their new tri-patented (pending), triangular brush - the brush has two flat sides, which you use to load the lashes with product, and two fanned, angled sides to pull it up the lashes to separate and lengthen them.

It's not just the brush that delivers the effects though - the Black Diamondshine™ Formula (named so because the black mineral pigments are coated in light-reflecting oils) apparently contains a 'delicate' balance between two types of wax giving it a 'feather-light' texture - it really does, it even feels light to the touch, like there's nothing on your lashes at all - and with each wax contributing something different to the effect: the soft waxes build the volume, and the hard carnauba wax fixes the curl.

My conclusion? Star is another excellent mascara from the Hypnôse line - it does exactly what it promises to: provides lots of volume while still defining each lash, doesn't flake or smudge (even after a day of wear), and holds curl better than any mascara I've tried before. The brush is very effective and easy to use, with the tip great for the bottom and inner lashes, but also great for pulling the product right to the lash tips. It's knocked Doll Eyes off from the top spot for me. With the way they continue to up the ante with every release, I can't wait for the next addition.

Oh - and playing along with it's retro movie star theme, Lancôme has recruited Daria Werbowy and iconic 30s cartoon Betty Boop for the campaign - watch their commercial below.
