When you think of Gwen Stefani the first things that spring to mind are probably her modern-day Marilyn Monroe-esque platinum blonde hair and red lipstick - I cant actually remember a time when Gwen didn't sport them, but she does (obviously).
It turns out the lipstick came before the hair. The No Doubt frontwoman revealed that her grandmother was the one behind her now signature style after she gave her a red lipstick while she was in high school. She told Harper's Bazaar, "I remember sitting in my ghetto, beat-up Honda Prelude and putting on that lipstick in the rearview mirror and being like, 'Uh-huh, I like that. That's the shit right there.' I never stopped after that."
Gwen also recalled the eight hour session she sat through the first time she dyed her hair that famous blonde, when she was 25, just before No Doubt released the massive Don't Speak. She said, "It was like I'd unlocked the key. I remember feeling like, 'I have arrived. This is me. Finally.'"
The singer added that she still loves make up, and wears it at home all the time. "I like to make my husband like me more," she says, "and he likes it when I'm wearing makeup."
"I've always been a girl who loves to dress up," says Gwen. "I already put my makeup on twice today: I put it on to take my kid to school, and then I went home, washed my face, and put it on again to have lunch with you."
