Your first look at the NARS Andy Warhol collection
Francios Nars himself told WWD why he chose the artist for a collaboration - essentially, he's a massive fan and has been since he was 12-years-old. "I have always surrounded myself with Andy's work and even paid tribute to him in my past collections - Edie Eyeshadow, Chelsea Girls Lip Lacquer, etcetera,2 he told them. "This just seemed like the right time to do [a bigger effort]. Even more than 20 years after his death, Andy continues to be one of the most influential figures in both contemporary art and pop culture. Andy said, 'If everybody's not a beauty, then nobody is.' This is the same sentiment I wanted to bring to life with Nars - a forward-thinking attitude toward beauty, and the encouragement to inspire self-expression, creativity and artistry in the women who wear it. It seemed like a natural fit to create a collection that Andy himself might have a hand in if he were alive today.
So how is he being represented through the makeup? Just to make things complicated there are two collections: one inspired by Pop art that will be sold in Sephora, with products including the Debbie Harry Cheek and Eye Palette, inspired by Warhol's 1980 paintings of the Blondie singer; the Kiss Mini Larger Than Life Lip Gloss Coffret, featuring five new lip glosses - Silver Factory, Drella, Chelsea Girls, Blue Movie and Myths - which comes in a soup-can tin covered with Warhol's lip print, and three eye shadow palettes - Flowers 1, Flowers 2 and Flowers 3, which each feature a Warhol quote inscribed on the compact mirror.
Another collection will go to department stores, inspired by Warhol's Silver Factory, and includes The Edie set (after Edie Sedgwick), in a film canister emblazoned with a shot from one of the actress' screen tests with the artist, and The Silver Factory set, which includes the new Silver Factory Multiple among the products inside, and new eyeshadow palettes Self Portrait 1, Self Portrait 2, Self Portrait 3. They'll also be a 16-piece holiday collection sold in all stores. Massive isn't it?
Most excitingly, Nars confided to WWD, "We are planning several collaborations throughout the 2013 and 2014 calendar". So stay tuned, because there are even greater things ahead! Check out the Andy Warhol NARS collection in the gallery above.
