The name Biotherm pops up in quite a lot of conversations I have with other members of the beauty press when discussing skincare, and yet I have never used it. Well until last week, and now I can understand why it's so raved about.
Now it's colder I've been feeling the extra stress my skin is under a lot: it usually only gets to 1pm before my skin is feeling dry and I'm forced to cover myself in REN's Tonic Moisture Mist, but I've been using Biotherm Aquasource Skin Perfection for normal skin, and it's completely put a stop to that. The beautifully textured cooling gel formula sinks into skin quickly, leaving it feeling soft and velvety and perfectly primed for makeup. Skin hydration comes courtesy of their patented ingredient Mannose and a lot of Thermal Plankton cellular water, plus that gel texture I mention before acts like a shield to trap them all in to help keep the skin hydrated for hours.

If you're yet to try out the ocean-inspired skincare range, now is the perfect time because they've teamed up with illustrator Ingela Peterson Arrhenius who has designed some super cute aquatic packaging for the holiday collection. Biotherm are supporting Mission Blue this Christmas, the global ocean charity, who are raising money to create a marine reserve for the Ross Sea, one of the most untouched marine environments left on the earth, home to 40 species of marine life found nowhere else, and threatened by industrial fishing and climate change. It's a cause close to Biotherm's heart since most of their research is from biochemistry and they put many ingredients found in the sea into their products (their tagline is 'Beauty from the Deep').
Biotherm will be donating a minimum of 250,000€ to the charity from the holiday collection decorated with the Ingela's typical cartoony, kitsch illustrations and featuring a fairytale underwater world of mermaids and seahorses alongside Christmassy sleds and baubles all with a twist of humour ("I like to add humor to my images: [in the Biotherm editions] a little plankton says 'hello' to the submarine because the periscope looks a bit like himself", she says).

In the collection are six Limited Edition Christmas Sets, including the Biotherm Aquasource Skin Perfection Gift Set (£28), which contains Aquasource Skin Perfection for All Skin Types, Biosource Toning Lotion and Hydra-mineral Cleanser Mousse (top above), and in the Biotherm Source Therapie Gift Set (£37), Source Therapie Skin Perfection Catalyzing Serum, Hydra-mineral Cleanser Toning Mousse and Aquasource Gel moisturiser. Ingela has also turned her hand to the individual Biotherm Aquasource jars to give them a festive makeover too.
