2012 has been a big year for beauty - lots of developments on the skincare front, not to mention the huge explosion of nail art. There has been so much in fact it's hard to remember it all, but a few things have stuck in our minds as the best launches of the year. Here they are!

Models Own Mirrorball Collection - the glitteriest nail varnish you ever saw, it takes a few coats (five to be precise) but when they're finished they're the best thing ever. £5

OPI Skyfall collection - Well the best thing ever as well as the OPI James Bond Skyfall collection, which held the best gold nail varnish I've ever known in Goldeneye. £11

Bourjois nail polish remover - This product changed my nail polish removing life forever. Removes polish in seconds and so thorough - a beauty editor's (and nail fanatic's) dream. £4.99

NIVEA Lip Butter - The Raspberry Rose one is what I imagine heaven smells like. £1.49

Snoxin - My mum loved this product, one of the only anti-ageing creams she's used that she's noticed any obvious difference with. £29.99

Rimmel 1000 kisses lip tint - Great colours, great finish, great lasting time. £5.99

Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Eclat foundation - The best foundation I've ever tried, I started the bottle back in July and use it every day and it's still going (just about, but it is - such great value), leaves you with radiant, glowing skin and somehow a more defined bone structure. £28

ckone Liquid Eyeliner Marker - My favourite eyeliner marker of the year, so easy to apply and doesn't smudge. £14

Lancôme Hypnôse Star Mascara - The latest offering from Lancôme's Hypnôse mascara line, Star is the best one yet - can't wait to see what's coming in 2013. £21

ByTerry Aqualip Jelly Tint - Another Lip Tint I love, this one comes in just one shade to give you a lip colour reminiscent of what you'd get if you bit your lip. Super long lasting, and really worth the £22 price tag.

Marc Jacobs Dot - One of my two favourite perfume releases of the year, Marc Jacobs' latest fragrance Dot is a delicious lush, juicy floral. £47

Lady Gaga FAME - Surprisingly, this was my other favourite perfume release of 2012, and I totally wasn't expecting it either. A complicated note structure featuring saffron, dripping honey and apricot nectar that smells a lot more expensive than you might think. £25

I asked around the office for some of the other girls' favourite product discoveries of 2012 too - here's what they chose...

Hannah

Boots Vitamin E moisture lotion SPF 15 - The simplest, cheapest moisturiser with SPF but my skin LOVES it. £2.85

L'Oreal's Mythic Oil: Best cost per use buy this year, my hair LOVES it and even with my long mane you only need to use 3 drops max a time - lasts for months and months! £15.95

Boots Time Delay Skin Treatments Radiance Booster - A poor man's Beauty flash balm: it's brilliant! £6.14

Dermalogica Precleanse - Again great cost per use: perfect 'wake up' and 'wind down' for my skin pre cleanser: £31.50

Matilda

My absolute favourite is the Chanel lip gloss in Rouge Allure, I love it! £25

Gemma

Bare Minerals Stroke of Light - much easier to apply than the click-up under-eye products, and it really works on dark circles or (in my case) thin skin under the eyes that looks blueish. Most concealers are too warm and yellow-based, the lightest shade from Bare Minerals is very pink toned and the absolute perfect colour for me. £22

Revlon Just Bitten Lip Balm Stain - Clinique Chubby Sticks for half the price. Job done. The red is my fave. Also love the lip butters as well. £7.99

L'Oreal Million Lashes Excess - they took my fave mascara and made the brush even better and the formula even glossier. £10.99

Stila All Day Liquid Lipstick - matte lippy that's virtually impossible to remove. £15

Lush Twilight Shower Gel - Because it's a shower gel designed for the evening, which is very unusual, and I like to shower before bed. Plus it smells beautiful - even though there's a strong lavender scent, it isn't at all grannyish. £4.95/100g

Amy

Revlon Super Lustrous™ Lipstick in Fire and Ice - It's moisturising, despite the matte finish, stays on all day even with eating and drinking and the colour is just right shade of red, £7.49

Topshop nail varnish - much better quality than expected! From £5

OPI Nail Envy - working like a chaaaaaarm. £18.65

Nicky Clarke desiRED Professional Hairdryer, £29.99
