mac_year_of_the_snake.jpgIn the Chinese zodiac, 2013 is the Year of the Snake - to celebrate, MAC are launching a collection dedicated to the Dragon's successor.

Year of the Snake features a palette of rich, vibrant purples, pinks and coppers, in shimmering metallic finishes which come in limited edition eyeshadow, lipstick, pigment and beauty powder. The packaging is maybe even as exciting as the products are, encased in metallic snake-embossed covers - so cool.

The packaging isn't the only thing with a new year makeover - the products are embossed too, like on this lipstick:

This is Plumful (£15.50): not a new colour, just a re-promote with a snakey makeover. It's a really pretty rose-plum, a slightly darker pink with a pearlized wet look finish. A good core collection lipstick.

Altered State is a frosted blue purple shadow:

But if you're on the lookout for a new purple eyeshadow, I'd definitely go for the Push the Edge pigment (£18) - a deep bright purple with a pearl finish. Applied dry it's nice (as you can see on the left swatch in the image below), but applied wet (right swatch) it's got such an amazing saturated, vivid finish. We love it.

The Year of the Snake collection will be available from January 31st, just in time for Chinese New Year on Febuary 10th, at Harrods and Selfridges.
