The one question/statement I keep hearing when I tell people about my laser treatment is that' but you have great skin!'. Then they amend it with, 'well your skin's pretty good anyway. That's not strictly true... Whilst I don't have the pitted skin of my youth that require antibiotics and roaccutane, neither do I have the desired peachy complexion I long for, and have had persistent acne for some time now. I may not be the 'typical' traumatized teen, but I am unhappy enough to want to make a change to my complexion.
Treatment two of the laser went surprisingly well. I'd been scrutinizing my skin for the last month and had noticed some slight improvements to the tone and texture.

Today I underwent my first treatment of the Ellipse I2PL laser acne treatment at the Knightsbridge salon.
As per their very detailed instructions I've spent the last four weeks dutifully applying adapalene cream every night and wearing SPF40 in the day. I'm very conscious of my skin burning, so I'm doing my best to avoid any sun damage at all, despite the unfeasibly hot weather.
I nervously approach the clinic today, with my fingers crossed that the treatment is going to be quick and painless. Well, one out of two isn't bad...

Spots. Acne. Pimples. Whatever you call it, it's a blighting problem for anyone who suffers from them. It doesn't matter if it's just one annoying pop-up before a first date, or full-blown red constellations that aliens might confuse for the Milky Way - they affect confidence and are a major irritation.
Help, though, is at hand. There are many options, from commercial skincare to topical and oral medication, and cosmetic procedures. While Zara tries laser treatment for her skin, I'm giving one more shot at products. I've been trying two sets of cleansers and moisturisers: Champneys' brand new Calming Skincare, and Dr Nick Lowe's Anti-Blemish range...

My skin is very up and down. Sometimes it's as smooth and clear as a babies bottom, other time it's breaks out so badly that crawling under the duvet with the lights off is the only reasonable course of action.
Well I've decided I'm not going to suffer in silence anymore and have decided to embark on a course of IPL treatments for the skin. I'm going to be trying the Ellipse IPL laser for the next few months and will be giving you monthly reports on how the treatment is working, with all the gory photos as well!

French skincare is notoriously wonderful, so I was very excited to be invited to try some products by Darphin. However, my temperamental skin doesn't like change, and I was slighly worried that too many new ingredients and products might do more harm than good.
Luckily I wasn't going into this blind. As an aromatherapy-based brand, Darphin believe in touching, feeling and (of course) smelling the ingredients before buying. My skincare regime was custom-fit after a long consultation, and I was surprised at what I ended up taking home with me...

If your skin has been taking a bit of a beating lately you'll be happy to know that you're not alone. And by that I mean esteemed stars such as Britney Spears, Billie Piper and Catherine Zeta Jones all fall prey to the dreaded spots every now and then. To make you feel slightly better I've compiled a selection of spotty stars, which should hopefully help your own pustules diminish in comparison.

We all expect to to be rather spotty in our teens, what with hormones flooding our body and oily skin par for the course, but I never thought I'd still be complaining about spots in my twenties.
Welcome to twacne, the twenties skincare problem (coined by me as well!). The bad skin that we get in this decade isn't due to the same stresses as when we were younger, so if you invest too heavily in Clearasil you'll actually damage the skin as it isn't just oiliness that's the problem.
