Now autumn's well and truly here and the nights are closing in, sunlight is in short supply and for those who prefer their pale skins a little bronzer, the bottle really is the only safe way to achieve a tan.
The Malibu range is one I'll always associate with holidays in warm and sunny places, so just looking at these bottles takes me back to bright and balmy days. They're all brand new from the suncare specialist, and have been created to help you tan gradually over the darker months so you can emerge bronzed and beautiful in the spring. There are three gradual tanning lotions including one for the face, but for those who can't wait the days and weeks it takes a tan to develop, there's also Moonlight Shimmer, and instant bronzer to add a sunkist glow to exposed body parts.
The best thing about this range (besides those oh-so nostalgic bottles) is how affordable they are: everything in it is beween £2.99 and £3.99. Check it out here.
When I say I don't tan easily, I really mean it. Forget interesting: I'm just pale. In fact, I'm so pasty that my veins are visible even in photographs and going out in direct sunlight for even an hour is a recipe for sunstroke.
This was great news back in my Goth days, when I never had to spend money on white foundation, but now I'm looking to cultivate a less anemic complexion, it's a choice between fake it or bake it, and I know which option my skin will thank me for. So earlier in the summer, en route to a festival where I planned to kick back and strip down, I slapped on some Xen Tan Deep Bronze Luxe which promised me an instant tan.

We're big fans of Xen-Tan here at Shiny having had great streak free results with their lotions, and are pleased to announce they'll now be available in a vanilla flavour! Yes really, though the formulations remains basically the same, they have added three new products with the 'Deep Bronze Luxe ' moniker. The products have the ingredient Lexorez which slows down the release of DHA for a smoother tan, and they've upped the level of DHA to keep you browner for longer.
To be honest, I'm most excited about the scent- wouldn't you be? Get it here.

The term 'Tangoed' has rather derogatory connotation, relating to the general appearance of the 'stars' that tend to grace Page 3. Tango however are deciding to have a 'fun' play with words and are bravely launching their own brand of fake tan, entitled FakeTan-go.

Spray tans are famous for giving a fantastic all over golden glow without streaks, but with that smooth even glow comes a big downside, the chemical stink of the DHA ingredient used to make you turn mocha.
Cucumba Salon is now offering spray tans that not only turn your favourite Starbucks drink (tall skinny caramel latte), but make you smell good as well.
They've combined their tanning agents with a variety of aromatic scents, and you can mix and match the shades desired with the aromas to have you looking and smelling delicious.

We've seen this type of innovation in foundations, but the colour match dial on the new Piz Buin bottle is something totally new in the world of fake tan. Basically you get a bottle that contains two chambers, both filled with self tanner with differing levels of DHA.
There's a click wheel along the top of the bottle, which you use to select the shade you'd like to turn. You can go from 1 (a hint of sun) to 5 (bronzed goddess) and the idea is that you start low and then move up the numbers when you're more confident. It's a nice idea for self tan virgins, but the more experienced tanner may find that they only use level 4 and 5, and this would empty the chambers unevenly.
