Sarah Jessica Parker to release SJP NYC for Sex and the City 2

SJP New York.jpg

The new Sex and the City film has female hearts a flutter, and now you can recreate the scent of excitement as well. The lovely Sarah Jessica Parker has just added another fragrance to her ever growing library, and this one is called SJP NYC. It has taken influence from the bustling metropolis of New York, and is packaged in a very bright bottle. I love the colourful accents of zebra print and butterfly, as the design is very striking.

Will you buy fewer cosmetics in 2009?

cosmetics.jpg

According to a survey of 600 American women ages 25 and up, these ladies will be reducing spending on cosmetics by 8.7 percent in 2010.

"In personal care, consumers plan to spend less overall, but indicate they will remain loyal to brand names," said David Garfield, a managing director of AlixPartners who conducted the survey. He told WWD that while consumers have been "value shoppers" in 2009, "they have evolved into 'value-hunters, tracking down deals and perceived value."

Personally, I'm trying to pare down my beauty routine in order to be using fewer chemicals on my skin. But this doesn't really mean I'm spending less because often healthier organic products are more expensive.

What about you? Are you cutting back on cosmetics in the new year?

Homemade Beauty: Hair Conditioning Mask Recipes

olive-oil.jpg

Nadine Haobsh of the Nadine Jolie blog and author of Beauty Confidential and Confessions of a Beauty Addict recently shared some homemade hair masks from The Parlour on 3rd, a salon in Santa Monica, CA that I thought I'd pass along. Since your cash has probably run out from gift buying and you haven't received your Sephora gift cards yet, these are a great option for giving your hair some moisture an oomph in this snow before the big day.

Olive oil moisturizing treatment, by stylist Josh Rosebrook:

1. Take 1/4 cup olive oil and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds.
2. Part your hair into four sections and apply the warm olive oil to your scalp, section by section. Make sure to work the olive oil from the scalp to the ends of your hair.
3. Put a plastic cap on your hair and let the olive oil work its magic for 30 minutes.
4. Remove the cap. Shampoo, condition, and style your hair as usual.

That one may be a bit much for anyone with an oily scalp, so you may want to try the second recipe - which is really only one ingredient - mayonnaise.

Free Gift with purchase Roundup: The Top Four September deals

DKNY bag.jpg

Supermarket sales soar when they start adding B.O.G.O.F deals to items, as all of a sudden that novelty Coco Pops cereal looks a lot more attractive when you¹re getting two of them. This also works with free gifts, as getting something a little extra always lures me in. Last year if you bought Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker in Debenhams you'd get a free umbrella and notebook, and I had to literally force myself not to buy it- despite already have a 3/4 full bottle at home.

In a bid to increase consumer spending brands are now offering all sorts of incentives to get their customers back, and some of the free-with-purchase options are so covetable that their strategy is sure to work. Here are the four best ones available right now.

This week's best beauty bargains

beauty-deals2.jpgLots of stores seem to be going in for the 'going going gone' approach to selling off products at the moment, and this week it's Debenhams' turn to test this model. All of their departments are offering up to 25% off everything between now and Saturday - and some of the best deals I've seen so far are from the beauty counter. Hurrah! Here are just a few of the bargains I spotted:

Clarins cleansing trio: You're entire skincare regime is in these three bottls, usually worth £22. But there on sale here for just £10.80

YSL's 'must have' Touche Eclat can be had for a little less than usual this week: it's down from £23 to 20 here.

Fake Bake is your recipe to a safe and lasting tan, and you'll need it more than ever once winter kicks in. Luckily you can get the airbrush gift set half price this week, reduced from £50 to just £25 here.

DKNY Be Delicious not only has the best packaging of any perfume I know at the moment - it smells fresh and fabulous too. You can get it for the great price of £26.42 this week - down from £36.99 here.

More beauty bargains next week!

How to fake Cheryl Cole's £100,000 a year looks!

Can you imagine what 100 grand on beauty products looks like? Cheryl Cole's face provides an authentic answer, as it has been reported that this is the amount that the former singer and WAG spends on cosmetics in a year. That's an awful lot of fake tan and mascara...

To many, the news comes as a bittersweet reminder that with enough money to burn, most of us could scrub up pretty well. But the fact remains that most of us don't have £100,000 to spend on anything, let alone cosmetics, so a bit of cheating is required. Thankfully, the beauty industry often cheats as well, so it's quiet possible to play it at its own game and look fantastic without falling for every fad going. As a self-confessed beauty junkie, I've had a fair bit of experience scouting out the cheap products that really do work and identifying the pricier ones it's worth splashing out on.

Read on for a few tips on how to look a hundred thousand pounds without bancruptcy!
