L'Wren Scott and Lancome paint it pink for Spring 2010

L'Wren Scott.jpg

Pink was the major beauty statement on the runway of L'Wren Scott, a little bit girlish and a lot dramatic. The inspiration was Marie Antoinette's matte, blushed complexion.

Lancome's Artistic Director for Makeup Aaron De Mey layered colors and textures to achieve the look. On cheeks he used Color Design Cream Blush in Petticoat Pink and Pret-a-Plum, followed by translucent powder and powder blush.

Eyes were bold but neutral with a dusting of taupe shadow, several coats of black Hypnose Waterproof mascara, and white eyeliner along the waterline to make irises pop. A dab of clear Juicy Tubes was the surprising product used to give eyes a wet finish.

De Mey applied L'Absolu Rouge lipstick in Berry Noir with his fingers and layered Color Fever Gloss in Molten on top to create a shiny, color-saturated finish.

Shu Uemura Face Powder Matte and Le Vernis nail polish in Untamed Plum finished off the look.

Backstage beauty from Tory Burch Spring 2010

Tory Burch makeup final.jpg

Warm, peachy and perfect for spring, MAC makeup artists created a young and fresh look for Tory Burch's Spring 2010 presentation. Mia Farrow was the inspiration, and some of the products used included Peaches blush, the new Colour Me Coral lipstick and Amber Glow Lipglass. A mid-tone smokey eye was created with a shimmery, peachy brown. Lots of mascara was used on top and bottom lashes.

For the perfectly manicured digits, Zoya Nail Polish was backstage painting away. One of my favorite brands, Zoya used shades Erin (a pale rose nude with glitter metallic highlights) and Tasha (a white skintone nude cream) on models' nails.

Plenty more backstage pictures after the jump!

Lancome unveils Chris Benz collabo lipstick 'Chris and Tell' at New York Fashion Week

Chris-Benz-6.jpg

The latest designer collaboration in Lancome's popular Pout-a-Porter series is with Chris Benz, who happens to be one of the sweetest men in fashion. The new pink lipstick was named Chris and Tell by a user of the Lancome Facebook Fan Page, and Benz seemed just tickled by the monicker and the color backstage before his Spring 2010 show.

"[The shade was inspired by] the idea of Cheryl Tiegs at a party" Benz said. "The color feels very beachy for the spring."

Chris and Tell may not be available until February, but other products used by Lancome makeup artist Daniel Martin on the models include POP 'N CHEEKS in Coral Flirt and LE CRAYON KOHL in Black Coffee.

For pics of the finished look and information on the Redken-created hairstyle (my favorite of fashion week!) keep reading.

Runway Rundown: Luella S/S '10 at London Fashion Week

If you weren't too busy drooling over the beautiful bags and accessories at Luella's Spring/Summer 2010 London Fashion Week catwalk show, you'd have been mesmerised by one aspect of the styling in particular: the models' heavy, block colour eye makeup. Most wore a vibrant coral/red tone, which picked up the colour of the accessories perfectly.

To get this effect, make sure you use a high pigment colour that won't smudge or crease easily. A cream powder like this made by professional and theatrical brands such as Kryolan is ideal: you'll also find a wider range of colours, like this bright red. MAC's 'passionate' high pigment eyeshadow is also a close fit if you really want to emulate this look!

Runway Rundown: Marc @ Marc Jacobs S/S 09 New York Fashion Week

marcjacobs09.jpg

Whenever Marc Jacobs has a fashion show you can rest assured that the photographers will be busy capturing it, as what's seen on his runway will be reflected in fashion for the coming year. The bows seen on the model were definitely channelling the Gossip Girl vibe, and you could see Blair Waldorf happily donning any one of those hairbands; which I'm betting will relate to a rise in sales at Claire's Accessories. I was intrigued to see a punky neon sculpted lip adorning the pouts, as it's a nice return to eighties inspired shapes and colours.

Runway Rundown: Cool quiffs at MaxMara S/S09

maxmara ss09 quiff.jpg

Whilst I'm in no way suggesting you turn your eyebrows into a sci-fi creation ala the MaxMara show, quiffs are still big news, and as you can see they're ultra wearable. They're a style that will suit many people, so you don't need a degree in Shoreditch and skinny jeans to pull them off. Androgyny was a keyword on the catwalk, so you probably don't want to wear this with a floral tea-dress, opt for smart tailoring and an over-sized jacket to really make its standout.

Fashion Week Retrospectives: 'Femme Fatale' Breakdown

Berry.jpgSo the Fashion Week storm has blown over London, Madrid and Milan, ending in Paris; but what a flurry of colour it's left behind for us to feast on! It's tIme for a series of detailed overviews focussing on key make-up looks from the catwalks so far.

The gothic look smouldered in many shows in many guises, from Ann-Sofie Back's rather extreme take, to the berry-toned lips at Charlotte Ronson and D&G. Bottega Veneta and House of Holland's deep plums are siren tones that require a bit of bravery, but the effect just oozes sexy sophistication.

"A classic femme fatale" is how Lucia Pica describes the look - she should know, being the makeup artist who designed the facechart for House of Holland's show. Read on for her complete breakdown of what she used, and how to get the look.View image
