DL&Co Medium Gold Prickly Pear Candle: So pretty you won't want to light it

lib candle.JPG

I'm generally a little dubious about candles, as though I love how they look and smell, it seems you're essentially paying money to burn it. Sure, lighting one up isn't quite the same as burning a fifty, but in essence that's just what you're doing. This candle has manged to win me over however, partly beacuse it's simply so adorable, and secondly because it's refillable.

Remove the head of the pear, light the candle and enjoy the perfumed essence of tonka bean and absinthe mixed with pear, and when you've had enough, extinguish the flame and replace the lid. Now you have a gorgeous ornament and a scented candle in one- score!

A dose of holiday glitter from Shu Uemura

glitter shu eumura.jpg

I don't know which is more fun, glitter in your makeup or glitter on your makeup - the packaging, that is. Luckily, both come out in spades this time of year. If you need a good excuse to add some flecks of sparkle to your beauty routine - then holiday parties and especially New Year's Eve are it. Break out this Shu Uemura The Planet Cat Couture palette and everyone from your 10-year-old niece to your jet-setting BFF will ooh and ah. The kit is part of Tsumori Chisato's limited-edition collection for the brand, and includes three eye shadows, a cream liner, blush and highlighter. The colors are sort of glam neutrals with a heavy dose of sparkle throughout. Watch a behind-the-scenes video about the collection here. Check it out at Barney's in the states or Harvey Nichols in the U.K.

MAC holiday 09 collections hit stores

MAC holiday image 1.jpg

Ohhhh holiday, not only are you my favorite time of the year, you are my favorite makeup season. And I have been aesthetically binging on pictures from the MAC Cosmetics holiday collection all afternoon. MAC manages to really reinvent holiday every year, with a pleasingly festive color palette and suitably sparkly campaigns and packaging.

Shown above is the Magic, Mirth and Mischief Collection. It's meant to evoke "Unstuffy parties, impromptu rendezvous, the informal chic of Festive Fantasia or an intimate evening a deux."

More pictures and details of the collection after the jump!

FHI Heat heats up Christmas

FHI Heat holiday pack.jpg

In an economy where you might not be dropping hundreds of dollars on hairstyling tools for yourself (or even if you are) Christmas is a great time to ask for the pricier items in your beauty arsenal. FHI Heat realizes this and are offering their Technique 1" Styling Iron and Nano Weight Pro 1900 Blow Dryer in a combo pack for the holidays.

I use both of these products, and love, love, love the straightening iron in particular. If you're questioning the regular $120 price tag, I will say that this styler is definitely 10 times better than anything you're going to get at the drug store for $30. And if you buy the combo pack, you'll get the Technique Styling Iron and the $195 Blow Dryer for $199. It's almost like buying the hair dryer and getting the styling iron for free. My highest praise for the hair dryer, which I also use, is that it really is noticably lighter than any other hair dryer I've used. I have very thick hair that takes a long time to dry, and my arm never gets tired using this. These are truly salon-quality tools and if you're using cheaper stuff, you'll notice a difference.

Sneak preview - Gok Wan's new beauty range exclusive to Boots

IMG_0058.JPG

Yesterday I went down to Boots' Christmas Press Day (they are done early for all those monthly magazines that work WAY in advance) and met the fabulous Gok Wan.

I expected him to be there as a guest providing words of wisdom on all things stylish but it turns out he is actually launching his own beauty range for Boots, come Christmas.

The range called Gorgeous by Gok is a selection of bath and body products all designed to pamper, pamper, pamper!

Read on after the Jump for more info on Gok's new range!

'The Bag Lady' Kelly's Christmas wishlist

While my Christmas pressie wishlist seems to pile up fairly quickly with handbags and other dinky accessories (well, naturally), there are always a few big slots left in there for beauty products. I'm a M.A.C fiend, so buying anything from there will have me your new best friend. Ditto, fragrance. However, this year, I've tried to be super practical and actually add things I need and use on a regular basis, rather than just things which will have me squealing for glee for 5 minutes but which will sit in my makeup case unused for 5 years. I know... how sensible of me!
