Deluxe vs. Dirt Cheap: Hot Scrubs

Hot_scrubs

Hot scrubs are exactly that, self heating scrubs that get all heated up when you scrub. Bliss Hot Salt Scrub with Rosemary and Eucalyptus is so popular that it is currently sold out at Bliss 'til at least the end of the month, but at £28 a pot, that might not be a bad thing. Kyphi Nourishing Hot Sugar Scrub, from the Sanctuary Spa, is only £9.99 and got high scores from the testers for the Beauty Bible.

Identical Beauty for £190 Less at the Sun

The_sun The Sun have run a beauty feature where they made up identical twins (who again, look like they could have been the Sweet Valley Twins a few years ago - are all twins so photogenic?) with the same look, one with cheap cosmetics and the other with more pricey brands. Needless to say, you can't tell the difference at face value, but they did mention that the cheaper brands wore off more quickly, which for me, is enough to convince me that it is sometimes worth spending the extra. Oh, and incase you were wondering, Kelly, on the left, is wearing the cheaper brands.

For the full list of the brands used and the Sun's verdict, carry on after the cut...

Deluxe vs. Dirt Cheap: Radiance Creams

Radiance

If your skin looks tired, dull and in need of revival, radiance cream is what you need. Clarins Beauty Flash Balm may be the celebrity favourite, but there's plenty of High Street alternatives that will cost you a lot less. Everyone may have heard of Clarins, but Boots Time Delay Light Diffusing Serum (£8.50) gets rave reviews like you wouldn't believe. Also highly regarded and much cheaper is Barbara Daly for Tesco Face Lift, priced at a bargain £6, it gives the skin a flattering luminous sheen, boosting your complexion for less. And according to Barbara Daly, works wonders on your body too, try some on your decolletage for a more radiant self!

Deluxe vs. Dirt Cheap: No Spill Powder Eyeshadows

Jemma_kidd_copy
I've already talked about the Prestige Let Loose! Shimmering Shadow Dust. But I recently came across Jemma Kidd's Colour Dust Shimmer Stick, which is essentially the same idea - loose powder in a spill-proof stick. The shadow is distributed through a sponge application and in both cases there was no spillage. The Jemma Kidd stick comes in more subtle shades and is easier to build up but there is only a choice of three, whereas the Prestige comes in a wider variety of brighter colours. Both come highly recommended so pick according to your budget and colour choices - the Prestige is £5.50 and the Jemma Kidd Stick will cost you a fiver more at £10.50. Read on after the cut to reads Jemma's tips for using power eyeshadow sticks.

Deluxe vs. Dirt Cheap: Mac Pigment and Barry M Dazzle Dust

Mac_pigment If you want eyes like the Versace model, then Mac Pigment is a girl's best friend. But at £15 a pot, your wallet will be begging for mercy. Barry M Dazzle Dust can be a good substitute, and at £4.50 is less than a third of the price (although you do get about a third of the amount too). But if you've only tried Barry M, then give Mac a go - it costs more, but it's better I tell you. Get yourself on ebay where people will dole out quarter teaspoons of their Pigment and sell it to you for a few quid. And yes, I do realize that urging you to try the pricey option is going against the idea of this section.

Deluxe vs. Dirt Cheap: Chocolate Beauty Products

Bourjois_bobbi_brown_2 For some reason beauty manufacturers seem to have made a joint pact to bombard us with chocolate inspired products - are they trying to get us to buy beauty products instead of eating? Bobbi Brown's chocolate collection eye palette was one of the first to tempt us, but it's rather more pricey than at bar of chocolate at $48 (that, and it's pretty much sold out). Bourjois on the other hand have created a chocolate bronzer, called Delice de Poudre (and rather amusingly pronounced 'Deleace do poodre') it's shaped like a bar of chocolate and smells sort of sweet, although not that much like chocolate really, but it's a much more affordable £6.95 (£5.45 at Superdrug). Alternatively, if you're just after the chocolate, you can probably pick up a bar for sub 50p at your local corner shop.

Deluxe vs. Dirt Cheap: Body Shimmer Oil

Nuxe_nars

Nars Body Glow is a beauty classic, but it’s also particularly pricey at £43. Nuxe Multi Usage Dry Oil Golden Shimmer is an almost identical product that will do the same job for just £25 and if you are a fan of Nars Monoi Body Glow (the colour free version) then Nuxe have a clear dry oil too. The only problem being that no matter now good it is, the Nuxe bottle is never going to look as good in your bathroom as the Nars one!
