Bumble and Bumble was the original surf spray, but as good as it is at creating beach tousled hair, £14.50 is a lot to pay for something the sea does for free. Fructis Beach look spray retails at £3.99 – giving you the beachy look for a lot less.
The Bliss Serious Seaweed Cellulite soap contains potent seaweed and effective knobbly bits to help rub away your cellulite, but it also costs £9 a bar or £25 for a set of three. Over at Lush (this is Lush America because I can’t find this bar in the UK now, although I’m sure we did have it) Into Thin Air will do the same job for around £6 (if the currency conversion is correct!). Its secret weapons are mung beans and cellulite-dissolving essential oils.
This week’s Deluxe vs. Dirt Cheap is a bit lacking as I’ve failed to find a picture of the second item. The first, as I’m sure you’ll recognise, is Stila’s fantastic Lip Glaze, which, wonderful as it is, is ever so slightly costly £20. The alternative is Tesco’s See-Through Lip Glaze, which comes in the same brush format as Stila’s, but is great value at £4.50. Unfortunately it’s only available in store, hence the lack of pictures, but it’s (along with the rest of the range) well worth checking out.
Today is set to be the hottest day on record ever. Keep the sweat at bay in the most stylish way with Chanel’s Papier Matifiant De Chanel (£14 or $35). The 150 monogrammed sheets are contained in a chic black case which even has a mirror to aid your blotting. Clinique’s Pore Minimizer Oil-Blotting Sheets (£7.50) may not come in such attractive packaging, but they’ll minimise your pores as well as shift your shine for half the price.
This week, you could spend £9.95 getting tanned legs in an instant, or you could get the same effect for £4.99, and a free eyeliner to boot. Sally Hansen Airbrush legs will set you back £9.95, or you could shell out half that for the Rimmel Sexy Legz Sunshimmer Instant tan and if you buy it at Boots, you’ll get a Rimmel Soft Khol Kajal Eye Pencil thrown in too.

I’m already a big fan of Benefit’s Brow Zings (£21.50), the wax on one side is great for taming my brows, and the powder on the other side fills in any gaps but still looks natural, and it all comes in a nice little case with the tiniest pair of tweezers ever (but miraculously they still do the job). The Bloom Brow Kit (£17.50) is, well, identical*. But cheaper.
* Ok so the dinky tweezers have been replaced by a dinky brow brush, but that’s it.
New Women magazine recently campaigned for Bobbi Brown’s Blush/Bronzer Compact Duo to be brought back to life after it was discontinued. Their wish came true and you can now purchase the limited edition duo. If $35 is too pricey for your liking, you can bag yourself a similar duo by Lorac for $28.50, granted it’s little more than $5 cheaper, but at least it will still be available when Bobbi’s version has long left the shelves.
