Bobbi Brown tells us how to use her Velvet Plum Eye Palette

Bobbi Brown plum eye palette.jpg

For those of us who like our makeup application paint-by-numbers easy, here are some quick tips from Bobbi Brown herself on how to use her Velvet Plum Eye Palette, $40.00. I generally use the rule of applying the lightest color in a palette all over, the medium shade in the crease and the darkest shade with a wet, flat brush as eyeliner. But there's four colors in this palette and that always throws me for a loop!

Keep reading for Bobbi's simple steps.

Get Lashed at Nails Inc.

get-lashed.jpgLet it be known that I'm not advocating any form of binge-drinking in this post (although I did enjoy a couple of glasses of champagne during the treatment!) Instead, I'm referring to the new semi-permanent lash extension service being offered at Nails Inc, which will give you long and lustrous lashes that last up to a week.

We've all worn false eyelashes to parties, hen nights and dressing up dos, but these are a little different in that they're applied professionally, avoiding the weird angles and kinks that most of us create while sticking on take lashes - and they last much longer. There's a choice of thicknesses and styles, and the procedure takes all of about 10 minutes. I had a fairly natural-looking set glued to my lids, and it was great to wander around with fuller, thicker lashes that framed my eyes and added a bit of easy glamour for the best part of a week. I found they began to fall out after that, and it was easy to pull out the remaining ones myself.

A set of eyelash extensions with professional application costs £30: For a full list of services, visit Get Lashed.

Product Review: Brush on brow gel by Mineralogie

mineralogie-brow-gel.jpgApplying brow makeup is a delicate art if you don't want to look like a witch (which, admittedly might be exactly the look you're going for at this time of year, but let's plough on).

Pencils can result in too much definition, powder too little and that leaves you with a third an final option: brushes. My experience with this method has not been great before now, because the pigments I've tried have tended to be too thick and gooey, resulting in that Grotbags look again. Approach the same problem with a mineral formula, and results are quite different

New MAC Style Black Collection brings out the goth in you

StyleBlack collection photo.jpg

MAC Cosmetics always carries a bit of a rock and roll connotation for me and their new Style Black collection goes full-tilt goth. While it could be a little intimidating for the more natural-makeup-minded among you, there's really something for everyone in this glamorously dark collection.

"Lips, nails, eyes - there's no more dramatic way to declare your desire, your magnetism. they will surrender to a Blackfire Glimmerglass, Rapidblack Penultimate Eye Liner, a slash of Greasepaint Stick, and the hot scratch of Baby Goth Girl Nail Lacquer. Style Black is a way of life. A shadowy and mysterious figure of fantasy, even for just one dark and dangerous night."

Whoa. Now that's some seriously sexy product description, and you can't help but channel that sort of siren when you apply these darkly glamorous colors. Whether it's the Intense Black Greasepaint stick every girl should have in her arsenal or the Midnight Media Mattene Lipstick and Bling Black Glimmerglass only for the boldest of the bold, this is the MAC collection to get a piece of.

Product Review: Urban Decay Ink for Eyes

urban-decay-ink-for-eyes.jpgEyeliners are one of those products that are notoriously hard to get right. Too watery, too smudgy, too thick, unweildy brushes. The list is so long that many give up altogether, claiming that they don't have the 'steady hand' required to create decent eye definition.

But this autumn, eyes are going to be darker and smokier than ever, so you really do need to get the hang of eyeliner. Fortunately, Urban Decay have released a product that might just help - even for the most reluctant user. Ink for Eyes uses a brush and a solid block of high-pigment liner to achieve its effects, and I found this made application far easier and more precise.

Treatment Review: Semi-Permanent Makeup at the EF Medispa

EF medispa.JPG

They say that eyes are the windows to the souls, and it was believed that through peering at your pupils you could read someones true feelings. This makes framing them ever so important, as lashes and brows can really define your face. Years of zealous over plucking had left me with sparse looking brows with little shape, and I relied heavily on my trusty brow pencil. However I was sick of penciling in my brows and was looking for a more permanent solution. The EF Medispa looked like it could be the answer to my problems.

Dunja, their on-site specialist has a a reputation for creating perfectly shaped brows, and her client book includes a list of celebrity fans, including a Slumdog Millionaire beauty! I knew I'd be in good hands with her, and I headed down to Kensington for my first appointment. To start with she assessed the shape of my brows, and asked me what I was looking for. I've previously had my eyebrows tattooed and loved the results, but it had faded and now looked uneven- and I wanted two matching eyebrows that were well defined!

See pictures after the jump.

Runway Rundown: Winged Eyes

winged-eyeliner.jpgOne makeup trend that's really stood out during London and New York fashion week is the revival of smoky, winged eyeshadow styles. The sultry, eighties-influenced look seen here at Marc Jacobs' show is strikingly effective when done right but you'll look like you've been punched in the face if you get it wrong.

To get the look you'll need to use plenty of eye pencil to line the eyes before getting seriously smudgy with some shadow (pale slate grey works best). I'd recommend Elizabeth Arden's smoky eyes powder eye penceil in 'gunmetal' for the liner, accompanied with something smoky yet intense. MAC's grey eyeshadow quad should do the job nicely.
