Favourite products: Origins' 'A Perfect World' antioxidant moisturiser with white tea

origins-a-perfect-world.jpgIf you're in the market for a moisturiser and are prepared to spend a little more for good quality ingredients, Origins' A Perfect World white tea moisturiser is one I'd recommend to anybody.

I'm not a huge fan of all Origins' products, and find that some of their cleansers bring me out in a worrying rash - you know - the sort you fear will end up as a 'hospital job' as you monitor yourself for allergy symptoms shortly after application. But I can't recommend this moisturiser highly enough: it's my absolute favourite.

What they say about it

Origins claim that their white tea moisturizer works well on combination, dry and sensitive skins. Its 'hero' ingredients are the antioxidants in the white tea.

What I like about it

This is a very light-textured cream so has no heavy greasiness to it at all. But it still has all the crucial properties of a good moisturiser, i.e. it leaves your skin feeling quenched and rejuvenated. I've tried other creams that I could say the same of, but the next best thing about Origins' white tea moisturiser is its scent: it has an deliciously fresh orange blossom aroma to it that lifts my mood every time I use it.

What do you make of Eye Slices?

eyeslices.jpg

Yesterday I got an email form a reader asking me to do a review of Eye Slices as she'd heard mixed reviews about them. Having never heard of them before I had a quick browse and discovered they're cucumber shaped eye pads that you place over the eye for periods of five to ten minutes once or twice a day. Despite looking cucumber-like they contain Aloe (as that is less irritating) and the idea is that they banish dark circles. One pair can be used for up to two weeks, but I can't give you a price as they seem to be only available in salons.

Have you tried it? Let me know below.

Champneys vs. Dr Nick Lowe vs. Blemishes

champneys_sp_304674t.jpgSpots. Acne. Pimples. Whatever you call it, it's a blighting problem for anyone who suffers from them. It doesn't matter if it's just one annoying pop-up before a first date, or full-blown red constellations that aliens might confuse for the Milky Way - they affect confidence and are a major irritation.

Help, though, is at hand. There are many options, from commercial skincare to topical and oral medication, and cosmetic procedures. While Zara tries laser treatment for her skin, I'm giving one more shot at products. I've been trying two sets of cleansers and moisturisers: Champneys' brand new Calming Skincare, and Dr Nick Lowe's Anti-Blemish range...

Gemma's favourite beauty finds part 1: Skincare picks

At the end of this week, I'll be moving on, and thought I may drop into Kiss and Makeup from time to time (what can I say, I love beauty!) these are probably the last posts you'll see from me for a while. So I thought I'd use the last few days to mention some of my favourite products from all the ones I've encountered since I started writing for this blog. From pricey finds to budget beauty, these are the things I will undoubtedly continue to use long after I've left Shiny Media...

Everyone knows I have awful skin, so anything I've found that helps to sort it is bound to go on my 'must have' list. This product is one of those wonder items that just seems to do everything. I don't use it all the time because I'd get through it far too quickly, but when I do, the effect is almost instant. It's amazing for refining my skin after a breakout, it doesn't irritate, and it feels soft, smooth and light on application. I've also heard it's amazing for removing those little white bumps under your eyes.

Product Review: The Darphin aromatherapy-based skincare regime

darphin_prescription.jpg

French skincare is notoriously wonderful, so I was very excited to be invited to try some products by Darphin. However, my temperamental skin doesn't like change, and I was slighly worried that too many new ingredients and products might do more harm than good.

Luckily I wasn't going into this blind. As an aromatherapy-based brand, Darphin believe in touching, feeling and (of course) smelling the ingredients before buying. My skincare regime was custom-fit after a long consultation, and I was surprised at what I ended up taking home with me...

Product Review: K1 Serum

k solution.pngLiana Wood writes...

With a hectic London lifestyle of working too hard and staying up too late, I'm no stranger to those horrid puffy, dark under-eye circles. So when I saw that K1 solution serum is meant to be great at targeting the under-eye area, among other things, I was eager to try it.

Marketed as a 'unique skincare line with anti-redness affect', K1 serum is meant to be able to deal with a large variety of issues from thread veins, bruising, age spots and general red skin blemishes. Very quickly the serum is said to reduce the visibility of these unsightly problems and over time make them disappear altogether.

Slightly unconvinced, I wanted to know a bit more about the product. So here goes: through years working as a cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Robert Jones found that the natural vitamin K1 reduced his patients' scars after operations. He decided that rather than just using it after treatment, it could also be used as a preventative measure in the right doses, solving skin discolouration problems without surgery.

Well it all sounds good, but does it produce results?

Product Review: Elave Dermo-cosmetic Moisture Surge cream

intensemoisturesurge_lg.jpg

My skin has been badly affected by the changing temperature, and I now have a couple of dry patches I'm desperately trying to vanquish. My saviour in this struggle has to be this dermo-cosmetic cream from Elave, which has managed to plump up my parched skin, and leave it soft and smooth.

The cream comes in a fairly basic white tube, with slight clinical overtones, but when you rub it into your skin it has a nice thick consistency, and sinks in straightaway. You don't have to faff around waiting for it to absorb as it's incredibly quick drying- and it's also paraben and SLS free!
