Now I'm a fairly tricky one when it comes to foundation, as owing to combination skin I can never be a one size fits all kinda girl. I was however extremely impressed when I recently tried Laura Mercier's Oil free foundation. This product comes in 11 shades to suit every skin tone and is fully pigmented to give the kind of coverage every girl dreams of. It smooths on like a dream, and depending on how much you apply you can go from sheer to heavy coverage. I'm sure you've realized that with my leanings towards a face full of product I went for the heavier option, and it looked great. No obvious line around the jaw area, and it even managed to blend well around the tricky nose and eye section (dontcha hate it when you start getting weird product build up there?). It's £32 from Laura Mercier, which doe does lean towards the higher end of the market, but I'm a strong believer that foundation is the one thing you should spend the most of your moolah on as it provides a base for everything else. Overall, thumbs up for this one, and I think I'll be letting my old fave, Mac NC15 die a slow death.

I've always been a bit of a sucker for pretty packaging, which probably explains why my dresser is adorned with so many Benefit products. This lovely powder compact reminds me of a flower with its delicate petal like imprints and they also work as skin shimmers too. Yup, not only can you add a lustrous veil of shimmer to your face, you can also colour in your eyes as well. I'm not 100% sure that a face powder should try to take on colour qualities (what if you got confused/drunk- imagine what could ensue) but it's an interesting idea. The powder is £21 from HQ hair, which is kinda pricey for a concept idea, but it is nice to look at... Hmm. How about I just think about this for now?

Gosh, it does seem to be a month for Benefit bringing out their foundations in different shades, and today it's Some Kind of Gorgeous's turn. This cream to powder formula foundation touted itself as being the one shade fits all dream, well that clearly wasn't the case. It's OK though, as they've rectified that oversight (false promises, sigh) with a Deep version to suit darker skin tones. Now everyone can enjoy this wonder product, at $26 from Benefit USA. Still waiting to hear about its UK debut though, and I know it's gonna cost more here as well. Sigh.

Now I'm a big fan of Benefit, as I seriously love their High Beam and Get Even products, but I've always been a bit so so about their foundations. I know a lot of people love You Rebel, the tinted foundation style moisturiser that is meant to work for all skin colours, but I've always found it a bit dark for my complexion. Soo, they've now brought it out in a Light version, that will hopefully suit skin that is fair. It has all the coverage of the regular You Rebel, and an SPF15. It contains soothing aloe, antioxidant vitamin E and vitamin A for soft, supple skin, and is available for £19.50 at House of Fraser.

Oooh, oooh, new things from Dianne Brill! Based around fresh water pearls (said to help reduce redness and add luminescence) her new Face range has been created to help you look like you, but better. Comprising of foundation, concealer, power finish, blush it's all supposed to go on feeling cool and fresh, and provide sheer-but-with-a-glow coverage.
It sounds, and looks, lovely, so I'm hoping I'll happen upon a rare stockist of Ms. Brill's stuff soon so I can try it all out!

Pop Beauty are famous for their cakes, and although this one isn't that tasty looking, it sure is good for you. Mineral powders are fantastic for concealing, especially for spots - use a small brush and build up coverage as you need it. Pop have built upon this idea by creating a medley of correcting shades which you can either use all over for a general complexion boost or by selecting certain shades dependent on your skin needs. The mineral powder in this compact is pressed for ease of use, and includes peach (minimizes darkness), yellow powder (minimizes redness), translucent (works well as an eye cake primer), nude (neutral concealer), and tan (good for neutral contouring).
You can find Pop Beauty at www.popbeauty.co.uk or head to Top Shop Oxford Circus.

The beauty industry goes through a lot of phases where every company jumps on the same bandwagon. At the moment the bandwagon du jour is covering your product in crystals and duly hiking up the price. Recently Estee Lauder and La Prairie are two of many companies to do just that. SK-II is another. Their Signs Transform Foundation has been hand decorated with hundreds of the sparkly stones by crystal designer (there is such a thing?) J Maskrey. Obviously it's limited edition, so only 250 have been made, all of which are available exclusively from Selfridges.
