Root regrowth is the bane of blondes worldwide as around the three week mark we start to notice darkness creeping into our parting. Unless we're made of money, we generally wait around 3 weeks more before addressing them, but imagine if there was an in between solution? A magical formula that gently lightened your roots but didn't affect your highlights and meant you could stave off the visit to the salon for a couple more weeks?
It doesn't sound possible does it, but this has actually just become a reality. Goldwell has created an in salon treatment called 'New Blonde' which addresses your roots at that mid stage point. Their top secret formula is liberally applied to the scalp, and somehow the ingredients on it make it only work on the virgin regrowth, leaving the dyed hair and your highlights untouched.

I try many hair products as part of my job, but it's rare that I find one that stands out in the way this one did. Part of the HealthySexyHair range, the Soy Renewal nourishing styling treatment (quite a mouthful to say) is a fantastic stand alone product.
Suitable for use on wet or dry hair, you simply smooth a little onto the hair shaft, and voila, instant sleekness and softness. It really is that simple. The product is dispensed in a yellow tinted oil formulation, so be careful when using for the first time as a little really goes a long way. You may need to experiment with how much to use, as if you over apply (as with serums) the hair can feel a little greasy.

There are many styling tools on the market and hair straighteners are probably the most popular of the bunch. Women worldwide yearn to get sleek shiny hair with minimum of strain, but it's hard to know which model to choose. GHD indisputably rules the roost in the hair straightener world, but that doesn't mean that you should forget about other companies entirely.
EGO haircare is such a brand, promoting high end straighteners which promise salon like results. In fact they even say that the EGO hair straighteners are used exclusively in some salons, with Urban Retreat in Harrods being a fan.
I was sent the BIG Ego straighteners to try out, and to see how they'd fare against other similarly placed brands.

In haircare terms, I'm a real cliché. I chucked out my old hairdryer in the 90s hoping for a more 'natural' look, jacked that all in in the noughties when I first discovered GHDs, and now I'm bored of the poker-straight look again I'm turning back to the trusty old blowdryer.
But today's machines are nothing like the hefty, frizz-producing monstrosities of yesteryear: I've just started using one that's completely changed my style, overall look and daily routine: it's the Babyliss Pro I-Storm.

Nadine Haobsh of the Nadine Jolie blog and author of Beauty Confidential and Confessions of a Beauty Addict recently shared some homemade hair masks from The Parlour on 3rd, a salon in Santa Monica, CA that I thought I'd pass along. Since your cash has probably run out from gift buying and you haven't received your Sephora gift cards yet, these are a great option for giving your hair some moisture an oomph in this snow before the big day.
Olive oil moisturizing treatment, by stylist Josh Rosebrook:
1. Take 1/4 cup olive oil and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds.
2. Part your hair into four sections and apply the warm olive oil to your scalp, section by section. Make sure to work the olive oil from the scalp to the ends of your hair.
3. Put a plastic cap on your hair and let the olive oil work its magic for 30 minutes.
4. Remove the cap. Shampoo, condition, and style your hair as usual.
That one may be a bit much for anyone with an oily scalp, so you may want to try the second recipe - which is really only one ingredient - mayonnaise.

I can't stress enough how important it is to have a patch test before having your hair colour done, as side effects can range from scalp irritation to second degree burns. We all know that salons require a patch test 48 hours before you have a colour done, but how many salons actually keep to this rule? Perhaps if you have virgin hair they'll be more stringent, but in my years of working in beauty I've only ever been required to do it about three times, having had to request it personally, the other times. As a dyed blonde I'm probably not perceived as much of a risk so it came as a shock when two salons in a ROW refused to serve me.

I'm slightly to young to remember the days of hair wraps, but the retro packaging and funky design gives me flashbacks to re-runs of the '70's show, and Golden Girls. With retro beauty being all the rage these days, these wraps could be the piece de resistance in creating that authentic style.
Apply these wraps between washes to any type of hair to boost its shine. The wraps are infused with serum to make the hair look sleek and shiny, and you simply run one over the hair as you would a face wipe on the face. It's not quite the tie and twist wrap I imagined, but it certainly harks back to those used in the '40s. You get 25 wraps per pack.
£4.95 from HQ Hair. There are also Twist & Curl wraps, and a Rageaze Dry wash to choose from.
