Poll: What beauty category do you spend the most on?

lashes.jpg

What beauty category do you consider your highest priority? According to sales figures in today's WWD, it's likely mascara and eye cosmetics.

Last year, while many categories remained flat - neither gaining nor losing sales - sales of false lashes grew 6.2%. And sales for eyelash growth stimulators are growing by the double digits, expected to create a $1 billion industry soon. We certainly have no shortage of mascara and falsies reviews here on KissandMakeup for those going the more traditional route to longer lashes.

But do you really spend the most on your eye cosmetics? I would have guessed hair products or lip gloss would be the faster growing category - perhaps because those are the products I'm most likely to splurge on and replace each season. Vote in our poll, below!

Stila's Spring 2010 star - black diamond mascara

Stila black diamond.jpg

Stila's new products for Spring 2010 have been announced and among them is this curious Black Diamond Mascara. It seems at first glance the point of a "diamond mascara" would be glittery or sparkly lashes. But the formula in reality seems to mostly make use of black diamond powder to create brilliance, hardness and clarity to lengthen and adhere perfectly to lashes while maintaining a soft feel. All nice, but not why I'd pick up a "diamond" mascara for $24. Though, I will say Stila's Multi-Effect Mascara is one of my all-time favorite formulas.

What does deliver a satisfying dose of sparkle? Take a peek at more items from the Stila Spring 2010 collection after the jump.

Brush up for autumn with Benefit Bad Gal Lash Plum

Benefit-BADgal-Plum-Mascara.JPGForgive me for going a bit plum crazy, but the colour is such a perfect companion to everything about this time of year that I can't help it: the darker clothes, the ripening fruit: it's an age-old harvest time colour that we gravitate towards in autumn.

Earlier in the week we looked at dusky purple nail polishes (and I need to add that I've since tried Ciate Paint Pots' Cabaret and Nails Inc's Miami Purple, both of which get a beautifully polished thumbs-up from me) but I've since discovered this fabulous 'plum' version of Benefit's Bad Gal Lash mascara - one of the best fuller-lash mascaras I've ever tried. It's normally around £14, but you can get this juicy shade for just £12.78 at Debenhams. Yum!

Product Review: Maybelline Pulse Perfection

maybeline-pulse.jpgLike all beauty addicts I've never found a mascara I've been totally happy with, so I was keen to try the latest innovation in anti-clump technology: vibrating mascara. Buzzy mascaras are nothing new, but as a big fan of Maybelline's Define-a-lash series, I opted to give Pulse Perfection a try.

Maybelline's Pulse Perfection
is a supercharged turbo version of its popular Define-a-Lash series. It has the same lash-separating brush as the other mascaras in the range, but vibrates at the push of a button, with interesting effects!

Read on over the jump for my verdict!

Product Review: Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express mascara

colossal_review.jpg

This mascara's been available in the USA for ages now, but it only recently hit UK stores and is currently subject to all kinds of special offers and introductory deals. Maybelline have always been known for their mascaras, so I was eager to try this, which seems to take all the best bits of their other offerings and bring them all together in an all-singing, all-dancing monster of a mascara...

Product Review: Rimmel Glam'Eyes Mascara

rimmelglameyes.jpg

Rimmel mascaras have always been a favourite of mine. I like big, dramatic lashes and theirs usually deliver for very little cost. The latest one to join the ranks is Glam'eyes, a does-it-all mascara that comes in boudoir packaging with a pink plastic brush with two different sized sets of bristles. The short ones build volume at the root, the longer add length to the lashes. The above picture is the result I got with a few coats of the brown black shade (002). As you can see, it's spider-lashes ahoy...not one for the faint-hearted!

Sneak preview: L'Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes mascara

doubleextension.jpg
As the resident mascara fiend, when a sample of L'Oreal's new Double Extension Beauty Tubes found its way onto my desk, I was more than happy to give it a go. Mascaras that build up 'tubes' rather than traditional flaky fibres are the latest mainstream fad, despite the fact Blinc Inc have been selling them for years. L'Oreal have boosted the technology by adding a white basecoat for extra oomph. This is a good move, as previous tubing mascaras have lasted, but haven't been as dramatic as other formulas. Of course adding two colour-coded formulas means double the work of a normal mascara, but promises better results. You add the conditioning, lengthening base, let it dry and then top with the black top coat. Does it work any better than rivals? Keep reading to find out...
