Product Review: Cloud Nine hair straighteners

c9staright.jpg

I've been a devotee of GHD for many, many years, and though I've dabbled with other brands (Babyliss really excel in the straightening department) I've always returned to my trusty GHD's eventually. It takes a lot to tempt me away from this tried and tested tool, but somehow Cloud Nine managed it.

They haven't completely replaced GHD in my heart, but the fact that I turned to them ABOVE my GHD's for an important night out surely says something?

The Botox Diaries: Consultation at the Courthouse Clinic

bunny_lines.jpg

At the mere age of 26 and 2/3 I';m aware I'm not the average Botox-seeker. However I have started to notice fine lines creeping across my forehead, in the same way dew decorates a window pane- subtle, but still there. Many people opt to use Botox as a preventive method, as well as using it for line removal, so I headed down to the Courthouse Clinic for a in depth consultation with Dr Andre von Backstrom.

I was concerned the the quality of my skin would make me an unsuitable candidate, but he assured me that most medications make no difference to the treatment. 'We're using a neuro muscular blocker beneath the surface of the skin', he told me, which would be unaffected by medications for acne- even the super-strong Roaccutanne.

Salon Review: Refresh Treatment @ Alkali Aesthetics & Wellbeing

alkali4.JPG

Beauty salons are ten a penny nowadays, with often the only difference being the array of treatments on offer. Alkali Aesthetics aims to change that, by encouraging clients to become members, and take a more holistic approach to their health and beauty regime. 'We believe in treating the whole patient,' said Dr Aalok Y Shukla, the clinical director. 'It's not enough for us to just give clients a facial, we want to look after the skin inside and out'.

The salon has taken advantage of the growing trend for a more all round approach to beauty, and provides users with access to nutriotinsts, dentists and beauticians under one roof.

Product review: Benefit One Hot Minute

hotminute.jpg

One thing Benefit has always excelled at is presentation, which is one of the reasons it has so many devotees. One friend of mine is such a fan of the elegantly retro packaging that she continues to cart her products around in the original cardboard packaging, yes, even on the move. The latest release in the Benefit family is no less desirable.

It's a lightly pigmented powder/bronzer that comes packaged in an adorable watch styled box, that makes it look like you're adorning your cheeks with filaments from a 1960's pocket watch. The packaging is so pretty in fact that I though I'd share the pictures with you alongside the review.

Product Review: Medik8 BetaCleanse and C-Tetra Serum

medik8_betacleanse.gif

The line between cosmetics and pharmaceutical products has never been so blurred, with all sorts of products claiming they cosmeceutical value. The definition of a cosmeceutical is a 'product that works on the skin with high active ingredients' and it's important you recognize which do that, and which promise you lots and don't deliver.

Medik8 is a British grown brand, developed to provide results without the irritation that you might find ins some other active products. They cater to everything from spot prone skin to ageing skin, and have a range of complementary products on offer.

Product Review: Santaverde aloe vera shower gel

santaverde-aloe-vera-shower-gel.jpgMy main problem with 'natural' and organic shower gels is their tendency to smell floral rather than fresh - and the way that this doesn't always leave you feeling quite as squeaky clean as you'd hope to right after a wash. I don't like heavily 'herbal' scents either, and it's rare to find an organic gel that's free of such pungent aromas.

Fortunately, this is not a problem with Santaverde's aloe vera shower gel, which has a very definite 'fresh' scent; a lemony sharpness that gives the clean sensation you need from a shower. The gel itself is a thick lotion that lathers surprisingly well, and left my skin feeling refreshed and revitalised. I'd certainly choose this gel over the flowery ones I use only because I think they're good for my skin, and will feel happy in the knowledge that it's still made from body-hugging ingredients like aloe, almond oil and wheat protein, which are a great combination for dry skin.

Product Review: Blistex Lip Massage

blistex_lip_,massage.jpg

The clocks went back this weekend, and suddenly darkness seems to reign, with chill winds hitting our faces as we leave work, necessitating the retrieval of those scarves and gloves. We might be able to winter-proof our bodies, but let's not forget that our skincare needs a little boost as well. The winds can be really abrasive to the gentle skin on the lips, removing moisture and letting them become easily chapped. This can leave you with flaky dry lips, which can be painful and unsightly.

Lip balm might help protect them,.but it would be nice to address the flakiness at the same time. The latest lip balm by Blistex aims to do just that by combing a groove shaped applicator tip in order to massage away the rough spots. But does it work?
